Multimedia Designer, Editorial & Motion (D.C. or NYC)
TL;DR Kharon is seeking a full-time Editorial & Motion Designer based in either Washington D.C. or New York City. This role requires in-office attendance at least 3 days a week.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design engaging illustrations and infographics for across our touchpoints
- Create dynamic motion graphics for story packages, videos and webinars
- Collaborate with the Brief team to transform raw ideas into polished, platform-ready visuals that elevate our storytelling and supports Kharon’s broader objectives
- Prioritize speed and accuracy in a deadline-driven environment
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of experience in editorial design, or in a fast-paced creative environment; newsroom experience is a plus.
- A strong portfolio showcasing both static and motion design work
- Strong understanding of typography, layout, and color theory
- Sharp news judgment and visual storytelling instincts
- Skilled in digital illustration
- Basic data visualization skills (charts, maps)
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite; experience with Figma and basic web tools (HTML and CSS) is a plus
- Interest in global, national security, business, and political news.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with efficiency
- Adaptability, attention to detail, and a collaborative spirit with strong follow-through

We are seeking a full-time designer for the Brief—our media arm that publishes essential insights into the world of sanctions, export controls, supply chains, and other key global risk and compliance issues. We’re looking for a dynamic visual storyteller who can craft striking illustrations, produce compelling motion graphics, and create data visualizations that bring our content to life. Reporting to the Director of Content + Strategy, this position is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Kharon Brief and webinar program. As the storytelling arm of Kharon, the Brief provides insight into the complex world in which we operate, appealing to customers and industry professionals. By leveraging our in-depth research and analysis, we craft stories that go beyond mainstream headlines, offering context that is both interesting and invaluable. The Brief has recently entered a new chapter, enhancing its operations with a renewed focus on producing coverage that prioritizes accessibility, while aligning with and advancing core business objectives. You will play a pivotal role in this evolution as we expand the team and hone our editorial strategy.

The base salary range at Kharon is set between $90,000-$115,000. Please note that this figure does not necessarily include potential bonuses, commissions, benefits, or equity that may be part of the overall compensation package.
